This weekend I'm going on a retreat run by my youth group. It's actually a retreat for seventh and eighth graders, but I'm one of the team leaders which means I lead a discussion group and sleep group. At our retreats we listen to talks given by team leaders (usually high school students) or by some of the adults, then break into small groups to discuss them. The talks are on a wide range of subjects: Friends, Who Are You?, Prayer, Jesus as Friend, Parent as Friend, Walking with Jesus, and Christian Comunity among others. In the small groups we discuss the talks or anything the kids might have on their minds, and everything is kept confidential of course. We also make time for singing, games, food, and quiet time for meditation. At night, we divide into groups and sleep over a volunteering parishoner's house. i love these retreats. They're a great way to unwind and reflect about the important things, learn more about yourself, and meet new people.
Ah, yes, my older sister's church does that almost every ear, but this year, they didn't for some odd reason. I may not totally agree with their teachings, but when we got in our small group, my leader Amy had really great views, and she was totally awesome! I love that kinda stuff. Have fun, krism!
Ah, youth retreats. I wish I could get involved in something like that. Well, as a leader/councilor/whatever you wanna call them. Unfortunately, my church doesn't really have much in the way of a youth group. Other Catholic churches in the area might, but... I don't go to them very often, so I wouldn't know. I missed out on the youth rally at my old high school this year, too.
Sounds awesome. Apart from chorus camp I haven't really been to anythign like this.
Nice to do something like it. We only do camps with people our age, but when I get up to college, I might try it.
